The Labourer Drops the Scythe
Original illustration - pencil and watercolor on paper - of two workers resting under a tree, apparently on a residential estate. The illustration (4 3/4" x 5", no signature, no date)is mounted on a tan page removed from the Album. Below the illustration is a handwritten quotation, "The Labourer drops the scythe and desists from his work-", likely transcribed by Parkes. The quotation was taken from "Meditations and Contemplations..." by the Rev. James Hervey.

(likley Amelia Heber, wife of poet and Bishop of Calcutta Reginald Heber). Accompanied below by a long-hand 16 line untitled poem, likely in the hand of Ellen Harper Parkes. On cream colored paper, removed from the album.

With drooping bells of clearest blue
A watercolor painting of a sprig of bluebells (3 3/4" x 2 3/4", undated), followed by a 2 verse poem by the poet and Bishop of Calcutta, Reginald Heber (1783-1826). The poem is written in long hand script, and signed, "A.H." A.H. is likely Amanda Heber (1789-1870), the widow of Reginald, who returned to England with her children in 1827, after Reginald's death the previous year. The watercolor and poem are on cream-colored paper, likely removed from the album.

Watercolor painting of a sprig of two almond flowers (3 1/2" x 3", undated, unsigned), followed by two verses of a poem written in longhand script, and signed L.E.L, likely by the poet Letitia Elizabeth Landon (1802-1838) referred to as "The female Byron" by her contemporaries.
