Folder 13: Betty's Diaries 1945-1946, 1945 - 1946
Scope and Contents
1945: Extra-Small black diary with secure binding. Betty wrote about her transition from school to working at Aetna. She noted the date and time of President Roosevelt’s death.
1946: Regular sized red diary with loose and fragile binding. Has “This book is private—Trespass at your own RISK! AND I DO MEAN RISK!!!!!!” written on the first page. Betty’s diary is more personal than her father’s. despite writing about similar things; work and the weather. Betty wrote about how she was impacted by the death of her grandfather, as well as how the sale of his house was hard on her. She was sick often in 1946, and her parents cared for her. Her entries also show that she enjoyed shoes, appearances, and liked to go bowling with friends and co-workers.
