Scope and Contents

1944: A small black diary. It confirms that Oliver was a Mason with The Sons of St. George. This diary focuses on the Masons, but also includes standard information. Additionally, it is revealed that Oliver had coal powered heating, as he wrote of coal orders. Also, “OVP” is written in the back of the journal.

1945: A small black diary. This account is heavily focused on war, and many of the included clippings are death announcements of soldiers. He also included T. Roosevelt’s death announcement. “V-E” drawn on a few different entries. There are also service press dates, and Oliver did more writing outside of the days.

1946: A small green diary. Many passages are underlined, and math is included on many of the pages. Additionally, many Service Press dates were included, along with clippings that portray religious figures. Oliver frequently worked overtime this year, and his writing includes more detail in this journal.

1947: A small black diary. The war is over, and the entries vary in length and detail. Sporadic clippings are pasted in, and he used more blue ink in this diary than he used in others. Additionally, there is some writing outside of the pages.

1947 (#2): A small black diary—The Standard Diary brand. This one is very thick; filled with newspaper clippings. The entries vary in length and detail. Also included in the diary are: a picture of a man with two young boys, some clovers in the diary, drawings, and information about Traveler’s Insurance. Additionally, there are multiple death announcements for the same person, and there is a real estate card in the back.
