This series consists of approximately 43 letters spanning 1916-1929, with the bulk of the correspondence deriving from 1918 when John F. Burkin was enlisted in the United States Army during World War I. Burkin primarily writes to his wife during this period recalling life in Fort Slocum (N.Y.), and in Camp McClellan (Anniston, Alabama).
