This series includes personal journals of captains, crew, and one ship’s doctor spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. One journal by William Leverreth Hudson (1794-1862) recalls the travels of the U.S.S. Vincennes through Southeast Asia including Singapore, Borneo, Cape Town (South Africa), and the Island of St. Helena in 1842. The series includes personal correspondence and journals from Ambrose Parsons written en route to China (1859), and the journal of James F. Smith to and from California (1849-1851). Later logs depict the journeys of Red Star Line cruises in the 1920s such as those of Cyril Bathurst Judge (1888-1973).
