Antifascists - Algeria, 1943
Scope and Contents
Reports and correspondence concerning antifascists of various nationalities in Algeria, 1943, shortly after the Allied liberation of Vichy-controlled Morocco and Algeria. Majority of items in either French or Italian, some in English. Information is on both free individuals and those held in concentration camps by remaining occupying forces. Of note are several reports on antifascists in the far-inland desert cities of Béchar and nearby Kénadsa (referred to as “Colomb-Bechar” and “Kenadza”), and lists compiled in Italian by the Unione Democratica Italiana d’Algeria of Italian antifascists held in Algerian concentration camps.
