Scope and Contents
Reports and correspondence, at least half of which are in Italian, 1944, mainly pertaining to efforts to form an Italian government in the turbulent period following the liberation of Southern Italy, and the involvement of Pietro Badoglio in those efforts. Badoglio was an Italian general, one of several prominent officials of the Fascist government who turned against Mussolini amidst the Allied invasion and deposed him. He served as Prime Minister of partly-liberated Italy from July 1943 to June 1944.
