Photographs 1, 1942, 1946, undated material
Scope and Contents
B&W photographs, 1 is 8 x 11.5 cm, 5 are 7 x 9.5 cm, and 26 are 8.5 x 13.5 cm. The single photo depicts 3 U.S. Army officers sitting at a table, is faintly stamped “May 7 1946” on back. The 5 small photographs depicts the Allied landing in Algiers in November 1942 according to writing on back. The larger photographs are unlabeled but clearly depict 4 things: Street scenes of an Italian city taken from above, rooftops of the same city, American soldiers assembling in a major square in the city and then mingling on the streets, and a group of men gathered in a room at a table, seemingly mostly in civilian clothes, drinking and reading the newspaper The Stars and Stripes with headlines that proclaim “Nazi Armies in Italy Surrender”. Contents of this folder were originally combined with those in folder “Pamphlets and Leaflets - Psychological Warfare” in a folder called “For G.3. #25”.
