Scope and Contents

This composite collection contains four scrapbooks and one photographic album. The scrapbooks contain various ephemera such as travel books, and pamphlets, as well as photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, and typed manuscripts. They include material depicting landscapes in the United States such as cities, gas stations, factories, outdoor festivals and special events, as well as general travel brochures and information on travel in the Northeast and California, as well as portions of the south such as Virginia and the Carolinas. Elsa Ehresman’s materials also contain a record of a sightseeing tour by two women across northern New England originating in Utica, New York, along with a travel journal and scrapbook of her tour through the Berkshires and White Mountains in 1922.

Biographical / Historical

The materials contained in this composite collection were created by Doris Bascom of her travels in California between 1933-1940, Waldo F. Dodge of his travels throughout New England in 1929, Elsa Ehresman’s travels through the Berkshires (Mass.) and White Mountains (New Hamp.) in 1922, and Charles P. Staubach’s photographic album from 1925-1928 of tours through Connecticut, Washington D.C., New York state, Maryland, and New Jersey, as well as an unidentified creator (Anonymous) who possessed a touring scrapbook in 1933.
