Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from Hugh Chisholm to "Beata" [Beatrice Grover] September 9 [1972] regarding a comission from him to Beatrice to paint a portrait of Sara, Chisholm's mother.
Typescipt letter to Deata (sic) [Beatrice Grover] September 27, 1972 regarding the portrait and another pice of art "The Crab" which Beatrice will ship to Chisholm. Signed, "Hugh". Handwritten note "sent Oct 5, 1972" in pencil, presumably by Beatrice, at bottom of letter.
Typescript letter to Beata [Beatrice Grover] November 8, 1972 noting that he has heard that "Sara's portrait is already finished" and requesting that he be sent a color photograph of it. He also mentions that "the status of Rosie's [his second wife's] health seems to be, quite simply, insoluble." He also writes that he will "go back to Paris and Biarritz tomorrow". Pencil note on bottom "received from Hugh $350.00" presumably by Beatrice. Chisolm died when his automobile crashed during his trip to Biarritz 5 days later, on November 13.
