Handwritten manuscript book, 12mo, 24p. sewn binding. Signed Simon Backus. Author notes sermon was first given at Newington, 1726 and "2nd time at Newington, April Latter End, 1745" For the most part,written in a small, neat hand. Also signed, by Rev. Joseph Backus, Jr.

Backus was sent by colony authorities to Louisburg, Cape Breton as chaplain to 350 Connecticut Troops stationed there to prevent its recapture by the French. While there, he became ill and died.
