Scope and Contents

Two carbon copies of typescripts regarding Captain Howard C. McCall, Company "G" 59th US Infantry American Expeditionary Force who was killed as the head of his company on July 19, 1918 during the battle of Chateau Thierry in World War I.

McCall was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. See: The Pennsylvania Gazette, October 18, 1918, p. 57.

1. A Report made to Colonel Atkinson by Kenneth E. Caldwell, 2nd Lt.-59th Infintry, regarding the circumstances of the death of Capt. McCall. This report was the basis for the posthumous award of the Distinguished Service Cross to McCall, and is reprinted in full in the Pennsylvania Gazette, cited above.

2. Letter of condolence from "Ken" [Caldwell] to Lenore, Capt. McCall's sister.
