Biographical / Historical
The flyleaf of what previously had been a sammelband of these documents is signed by H.D. Gilpin, likely Henry Dilworth Gilpin, Attorney General under President Van Buren. Gilpin presented the government's case in the Amistad trial. Gilpin was also a director of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.
