Scope and Contents
Report of the Committee of Claims, to whom were referred on the seventeenth instant, the petition of Benjamin Wells, presented the 22d November, 1797; : and a report of the Committee of Claims to whom was referred on the 24th of December Last...together with a report of the Secretary of the Treasury : 1st February, 1803. Read and ordered to be referred to a committee of the whole House on Thursday next. 17th November, 1803 referred to the committee on claims. [Washington, D.C. 1803] 6 [i.e., 8] p. This may be a mixed coupling of Shaw 5422 when compared to holdings in the AAS.
Concerning compensation for losses sustained by the petitioner, federal excise collector for Fayette and Westmoreland counties, Pa., whose home at Connellsville was burned down by a mob of insurgents during the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794.
