Scope and Contents

This folder contains three sets of material: 1. 11 handwritten letters from George Parker Winship to Frank Butler Gay, the librarian at the Watkinson in the fall, 1917 regarding Erasmus' works (and others) and his concern about the accuracy of Watkinson cataloguing, along with penscilscript copies of letters sent in response to Winship by Gay.

2. Letter (1936) to the Watkinson from noted bookdealer E.P. Goldschmidt on behalf of the Bodlean Library - which was looking to acquire a copy of this book - regarding a specific point of issue in our copy, along with carbon copy of letter in return by Ruth Kerr, acting librarian.

3. "The Editions of Erasmus' De Copia" by Herbert David Rix, and reprinted from Studies in Philology, XLIII, 4, October, 1946 with a dedication letter from the author dated October 3, 1961.

The Watkinson copy of Erasmus' masterpiece may be found at Trumbull-Prime PA8517 .D4 1521.
