Scope and Contents

4 pp. letter with accompanying stamped envelope from Joseph Dicks to his wife, written while in the Union Army at Brandy Station, Virginia. Much on routine life at camp, and anticipating discharge possibly as early as May 5th. Concerned about whether he has to pay for his clothes, and how much money he will bring home - perhaps as much as $180. [Dicks, who joined the Army on June 4, 1861 was actually discharged on June 18, 1864.]
