This series contains photographs taken by prominent photographers related to mid-late 20th century politics in the United States and other countries including Spain, Indonesia, the former USSR and Soviet Bloc, and China. It depicts the P.S.O.E. and neo-fascist parties including Fuerza Nueva during the late 1970s in Spain, Mao Zedong with Soviet officials during the late 1950s, Brezhnev’s death, Gorbachev’s call for a vote in 1989, and Nikolai Khrushchev inspecting the harvests in Russia. Other photographs show Khrushchev with top officials such as Fidel Castro, Josip Tito, and Ho Chi Minh spanning the late 1950s to 1960s.

This series contains content related to 1950s through 1980s politics in the U.S. such as photographs of presidential figures and political leaders. Some photographs from U.S. politics depict heads of state, including Presidents’ wives such as Lady Bird Johnson, as taken by Francis Miller, and others portray President Jimmy Carter in the White House, as taken by Arthur Rothstein in 1976. This series further contains a number of photographs taken by Burt Glinn of Presidents Richard Nixon, and Harry Truman, who spoke at the National Democratic Convention in 1956.
