Scope and Contents

This series consists of correspondence, unpublished, handwritten manuscripts, and published poetry and prose by 19th century poet, Lydia Howard Sigourney. Some of the poetry has been published posthumously in journals and books such as a 2014 pamphlet. Correspondence span 1814-1865, and detail Lydia Howard Sigourney's journey into writing with a piece of correspondence from Daniel Wadsworth, 1814, and other correspondence from the Revrend Sprague, Abigail Williams, and Faith Trumbull Wadsworth discuss her experience as a woman writer and include poetry.
