Scope and Contents

These papers contain four ornithology notebooks, miscellaneous papers, two household account books, and a notebook relating to the Clark family genealogy. The genealogy book dates from the early 20th century, while the rest of the collection dates to the period of 1874 to 1903. Some of the notebooks record birdwatching and ornithology research. Household account books span 1874-1890 and 1891-1902.

Biographical / Historical

John N. Clark; a prominent ornithologist and oologist, wrote and published several articles on birds in North America, including the bob white and goldfinch. Clark wrote for the Ornithologist and Oologist in 1895 on goldfinches and published a book on bob whites in 1903. He also contributed to the Nidologist; a subsidiary publication of the Ornithologist and Oologist during the 1890s.
