Scope and Contents
This series consists of diaries, manuscripts, and other publications related to the works of prominent British writers spanning several centuries from the 1600s to 1800s. It includes the diary of Sir Edward Dering (1598-1644) dealing with the courtship of Mrs. Bennett; a wealthy widow whom he wished to marry. He mentions acquaintances with whom he wished to plead his case for marriage including Isaac Walton, Sir George Crook, Sir Henry Wooten. The series also contains manuscripts from George Henry Borrow (1803-1883), the 19th century poet Andrew Lang, and reviews and publications of William Makepeace Thackeray’s works.
