Scope and Contents

This series contains Blake’s memorandum in refutation of charges against him, correspondence regarding engraving titled Life of a Cowper to William Hayley (1745-1820), and a letter referring to his catalogue of an 1809 exhibition addressed to Ozias Humphry (1742-1810). It also contains a woodcut, an illustration in oil by William Blake related to the bread of life referenced in the Bible’s gospel of John, and correspondence by Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) related to publications on Blake.
