Scope and Contents

This box contains four diaries and journals related to prison life, service in the army, and a woman’s perspective on the Civil War and service with Mary J. Trumbull’s diary. They recall daily life of a Connecticut soldier, David A. Starr. It further contains the manuscript of Weston Ferris; a Connecticut soldier held in a prison in Andersonville and Belle Island, Georgia starting in 1863. They are arranged in alphabetical order by last name of creator. J. W. Newcomb recalls his travels to Baltimore, Harper’s Ferry, and Louisville (Kentucky) as a member of the Union Army, and camp conditions.
