Cummings’ Whaling Papers, 1840 - 1842
Scope and Contents
This series contains signal books from the Italian-Neapolitan fleet (1813), a ship list from the British Royal Navy (1798), as well as protests from the Island of Haiti’s United States Agency filed for the ship William Taylor from 1816-1817. Also included in this series is one folder of records, primarily correspondence, of whaling ventures by Preston Cummings of Fall Rivers, Massachusetts, as well as the papers of the U.S.S. Rolla, including correspondence and contact information from the early 18th century pertaining to the business of prominent Middletown merchant Elijah Hubbard.
